361.1-Rule Handling Complaints about Instructional Materials

The Board of Education recognizes that differences of opinion exist in a democracy, therefore, realizes that the suitability of particular instructional materials used in the schools may be questioned from time to time.

When citizens have concerns about particular instructional materials, these concerns should be presented to the instructor and building principal, then Director of Curriculum, in accordance with established procedures.  If a citizen is not satisfied with the administrative decision regarding the instructional materials in question, he/she may submit the concern to the Board for consideration using the Request for Reconsideration of Instructional Materials form.  The Board may opt to appoint a review committee representing community members, teachers and administrators to assist with the complaint.  Materials that have been challenged may not be re-challenged within one calendar year.

The School District of Baraboo shall not discriminate in the selection and evaluation of instructional materials on the basis of sex, race, color, religion, national origin, ancestry, creed, pregnancy, marital or parental status, sexual orientation or physical, cognitive, emotional or learning disability or handicap.
