Mandatory Session held on March 21st

To be eligible to have their MV3001 forms signed, students and at least one adult over the age of 25 attended a mandatory session at the Baraboo High School on Monday, March 21st.  They learned about:
*  low risk, high gain driving habits
*  the "laws" of the road
*  graduated driver's license regulations

Pizza was provided by Domino's Pizza of Baraboo prior to the presentation, courtesy of the AODA grant.

What does AODA mean?

AODA stands for Alcohol & Other Drug Abuse, however this acronym has much deeper ties to multiple assets that impact our students and their families in many ways.  In July of 2008 the Baraboo School District was awarded a 3 year grant to more directly address the external needs of our students so that learning could become their #1 priority.  Being side-tracked by the use of tobacco, alcohol and other drugs significantly diminishes a child's ability to focus, function and learn.  Parents who abuse these chemicals also impact their child's ability to succeed in school.  As a community and a school district, we want to help everyone succeed in a healthy and positive environment without these distractions.  Please check out the free resources linked to this page if you would like ideas for working with your child, yourself or anyone who is looking for some support with these issues.

~A Message from the AODA Coordinator~
     As you can tell from this website, the AODA title is an umbrella description that actually covers many areas of need in our lives.  Recently there has been a great deal of attention focused on the "Bullying Issues" that our nation faces.  These concerns are definitely a part of our AODA focus.
     Because the Baraboo School District feels very strongly about making our schools a safe place where every child feels safe and welcomed, we are committing time and people to establishing a bullying policy that is specific and effective in addressing these issues in a timely and consistent manner.  Working collectively with other school districts on this project has shown that Baraboo actually already has a very comprehensive process in place for dealing with these issues as they arise, but of course, we want to make any improvements that will strengthen our procedures in keeping our children safe.
     A draft policy has already been presented to the Educational Direction Committee of the Baraboo School Board in the summer of 2010 school-year.  Stayed tuned to this website and Baraboo School Board meetings for updates as we continue with this process.
     Remember, bullying is not just a childhood problem, but a community issue.  When you see bullying happening in your workplace, neighborhood, community or school - step up!  Research shows that 85% of the time that bullying takes place - NO ONE intervenes. We can only stop this if everyone recognizes what bullying is and steps in to stop it!
