Welcome to Jack Young Middle School, where the kids come first! Every student belongs to a house and to a special TARGET group. Students in each house share the same teachers and have their core classes together. In addition to their core classes, sixth and seventh graders rotate through a five-class cycle of exploratory classes such as computers, art, technology education, family and consumer education, general music, and introduction to foreign language during the school year. Then as eighth graders, students may choose trimester elective classes to round out their schedules.

We want to let you know of a new resource on the JYMS website. It is the School Success Web Content Service that is available 24/7. The site provides professional, research-based tips and ideas for school success on responsibility, respect, student motivation, reading, math, homework, study skills, routines, discipline and more---written for parents from an educator's point of view.

To locate this resource, get on the Baraboo School District website, and click on Schools and then Jack Young Middle School. You will click on the section titled "Tips for Parents". You can also find this section under the category of Parent Information.

Key benefits include:

Daily Parenting Tips, weekly quizzes, articles on timely topics,a "School Success Library" plus thousands of articles that can be keyword searched at parents' convenience 365 days per year.

An "Ask the Experts" Interactive feature plus additional reports, research and insights on current events that affect students and their parents.

In addition, there are Eight Discipline Series videos (from The Parent Institute) that parents can view online. The videos show hundreds of ideas for parents to use at home to encourage good behavior and school work in their children. Videos include: Building Responsibility, Self Discipline, Respect, ABC's of Discipline, Instilling the Desire for Success, Developing Good Character Traits, Resolving Conflicts, and YOU are the Adult! Accompanying each video is a printable "Points to Remember" summary reminding parents what they've learned in each video.

You also have access to seven in-depth Parent Guides to help build student success. Parents can read and print the guides from your own computer! Topics include: Top 10 Learning Secrets, Test Taking, Organization, Reading Success, Student Motivation, Bullying, Peer Pressure, and Helping your Struggling Student.
