Baraboo School Counselors Receive Top State Award!

Baraboo School Counselors Receive Top State Award!

Baraboo School District school counselors were recently honored by Wisconsin School Counselor Association (WSCA) for their work on the Support Personnel Accountability Report Card for Wisconsin (SPARC-W).  SPARC-W is a continuous improvement document that gives school counseling programs an opportunity to demonstrate their commitment to improving student outcomes.  School Counselors are key players in the school accountability movement.  Collecting and analyzing data can help counselors and their administrators identify achievement gaps, address obstacles for learning, and assess programs to ensure they are making a difference for all students.  School counseling programs must be able to demonstrate that their work supports the district's strategic plan and mission and concretely impacts student academic success.  The SPARC-W is a tool that we use to help demonstrate the impact our school counseling programs have in our buildings.

This year Gordon L. Willson Elementary, East Elementary, Al Behrman Elementary, Jack Young Middle School, and Baraboo High School all submitted their SPARC-W reports for evaluation at the state level.  GLW, ABE, East, and JYMS were selected to receive the Program of Promise Award for 2012.  This level of recognition is the top achievement awarded to a school counseling program in the state.  Other award winners this year included Burlington High School, Racine Case High School, River Bluff Middle School (Stoughton School District), Sawyer Elementary School (Sturgeon Bay School District).  The fact that we had this many award winners from one district speaks very highly about all of the great work that is happening in the Baraboo School District!
