In a surprise ceremony at her school today, Elizabeth (Liz) Gulden, a kindergarten teacher at Willson Elementary School in Baraboo, was named Wisconsin’s 2019 Elementary School Teacher of the Year.

A $6,000 Herb Kohl Educational Foundation 2019 Principal Leadership Award was presented to Amy Fassbender, principal at Gordon L. Willson Elementary School.

Big Dig Community Service Project Grant Program

2019 Big Dig Community Service Project Grant Program

By next fall, students could gather for outdoor lessons around a “mini amphitheater” at one of Baraboo’s elementary schools.   Gordon L. Willson Principal Amy Fassbender and kindergarten teacher Liz Gulden hope to put their Kohl Fellowship awards — a total of $12,000 — toward a wooden stage and stump seats at a site outside the school.

The Distinguished Elementary Teacher Award is presented annually to an outstanding elementary teacher in the School District of Baraboo.  The purpose of the award is to recognize and honor educators who have distinguished themselves by their instructional skills, their leadership and their dedication to the young people of the community.
